What is the meaning of ACEA on your Engine oil bottle?

Hi guys, do you ever notice that on your engine oil bottle have a label state ACEA beside API? And what is the meaning behind it? Today we will talk about it.

ACEA (Association des Constructeurs Européens d'Automobiles) is one of the organization similar to API but is the European version of it. But unlike API which is formed by petroleum industries, ACEA is formed by Car manufacturer instead.

Same with API, ACEA also have their own standard on engine oil. And same with API standard, they also have generation/specification on their engine oil.

ACEA standard was divide into 3 sub categories:

·         ACEA A/B for petrol (A) and light duty diesel (B) engine oil

·         ACEA C for three-way catalysts compatibility engine oil

·         ACEA E for heavy duty diesel engine oil

Today we will focus on the ACEA A/B standard, below is the simple chart showing the specification.

Due to the European emission standard was different with Malaysia, so the common ACEA standard use in Malaysia was ACEA A3/B4. If you not sure which engine oil to use in your car, kindly get in touch with us. See you next time.
